10 Things That Turn My Cogs 07/22/25

New week new thoughts.

  1. It's been a week and me asking if the Brewers will ever lose remains consistent, especially since THEY HAVE NOT LOST AND ARE ON AN 11 GAME WIN STREAK. Honestly it's extraordinary what they are doing, despite some pretty below average offensive metrics, elite pitching, base running and defense has gotten them to where they are at. Regression at this point is going to happen. no ball club can win at a .800 pace like they have, just a matter of the Cubs taking advantage of it.

  2. The Cubs, though, need to do something about their pitching, starting pitching to be exact. Having a bullpen day every 5th day isn't going to cut it. A SP at the deadline is 100% a need, I could also see bringing in a reliable RP as the cracks are starting to show there. We joke about Brewers black magic, but we kind of used some our self with that bullpen. Colin Rea has actually been great the last 3-4 starts so slotting him 5th until October works.

  3. Training Camp officially kicks off with vets reporting today! Football season is underway! What a fantastic sentence. The Hall of Fame game is just 9 days away. 9 DAYS AWAY FROM NFL FOOTBALL ON OUR TV! I'm so excited to see what the 2025 season brings!

  4. In other football related news, I will be getting back to QB reviews shortly, had a pretty substantial break due to other projects, but will start getting my backlog knocked out before the regular season commences. We will also see some season metrics involving my True Passer Rating dropping here soon, as well. Lot's of cool stuff coming there. Keeps your eyes on Twitter/here for more.

  5. In case you missed it, I'm doing a Pittsburgh Pirates rebuild in Out of the Park 26. I just posted the 81 game check in, you can find that here.

  6. Also CFB content will be dropping soon as well, I finished the web portion of it, just waiting to pick a good day for the launch and announcement there. Probably sometime after the title upgrade later this week.

  7. Finally a new WCG article is in the works for this week, last week I dropped an article explaining my QB grading system (you can find that here), this week I will be doing a "Review Rewind" where I look back on a game from the 2024 season to give the WCG community a preview of what to expect each week in 2025. I'm thinking Vikings vs. Bears.

  8. I recently found out that the local minor league team, the Frisco Roughriders have a freaking LAZY RIVER in their outfield, and every Thursday they do a "Thirsty Thursday" where Twisted Tea's go for $2. Want to guess where I will be on Thursday, July 31st? Coincidentally, just a few days away from my birthday too. Should be a great time.

  9. In some non-sport related things, I hosted a little cookout on Saturday and grilled entirely too much food. Burgers, hotdogs, bratwurst. I got so many leftovers, which isn't such a bad thing as charcoal grilled food just gets better with time in my opinion. Some knock it for the flavor but I really really enjoy it. Reminds me of simpler times as a kid, my dad manning the grill on in the backyard patio. Hoping to get a couple more cookouts in before the Summer is over.

  10. Finally, I sat down and watched "The Phoenician Scheme" on Sunday night. Wes Anderson continues to be one of the most unique film makers of our time. Obviously shot beautifully with the Anderson flair. Plot was a little hard to follow, as I found myself Googling what the heck I just watched once the credits rolled (as I do with most of his films) but overall I enjoy the film, riff with typical Anderson humor and the setting was extremely unique.
