I apologize for getting this out a day late. I was in a bit of funk yesterday after the passing of Ryne Sandberg.
So it goes without saying Ryne Sandberg is the first thing on my mind. The Cubs, Baseball community, and human race as a whole lost one of it's best on Monday evening with Sandberg's passing. The effect on me is pretty profound. Back before I really followed baseball with an intent Ryne was my favorite Cub. I grew up in a time when Michael Jordan's 23 was the most recognizable number in sports, so whenever I would catch the Cubs on WGN and see Ryne's 23, I would think of Jordan. And really at that time there was no better comparison. A consummate professional who upon his retiring was the all time leading home run hitter for 2nd basemen, a 1000 RBI hitter, and all time great Cub. RIP Ryno, thank you for all that you did for this city, and for me as a fan of baseball.
On the less serious things, the MLB trade deadline is quickly approaching. After 2 deflating losses to start the Milwaukee series the majority of the fanbase has gone into full panic mode. While losing sucks I'm not going to overreact to losing 2 games to a good team. All that said this team does need some help. I'm expecting at least 1 of the following: SP, RP, and a bat. Some bench help would also be warranted with how bad we are there as well. As far as WHO, I'm not one too much for speculation. But I do expect this team to look better post trade deadline.
Over to the NFL world, yesterday saw a solid offensive outing after early reports were predicting the demise of the Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson offense. I've seen so many ridiculous takes, including Ben Johnson came to Chicago for Tyson Bagent, who by all reports is having a solid camp. Just a ridiculous notion as Ben Johnson has said many times the offense is being built around Caleb. Also worth noting I will be covering todays Training Camp news over at WCG, make sure to check it out later!
Speaking of WCG, I dropped an article there yesterday covering Caleb Williams' Week 12 grade against the Vikings, check that out here.
On that topic, I've made a slight update to my QB scoring. "Average" plays are now being scored at .10, what this means is I'm being more critical of "no brain" plans and grading them as "Ungraded" to avoid score padding. Types of plays that generally fall under that distinction: extremely easy throws (ie. RB checkdown to the flat a few yards away), shovel passes, push passes, etc.
Onto the wrestling world, Summer Slam is upon us, and I've admittedly, fallen behind keeping up with the WWE. Just so much going on lately but I do plan to make time to watch the Wrestlemania of the Summer, especially in it's 2 night format (for the first time ever!) Cena vs. Rhodes and the Women's triple threat with Trinity, Rhea and Iyo are the matches I'm looking forward to most, but the card is pretty stacked overall, should be a great PLE.
The 3rd Quarter post for the OOTP 26 Pirates rebuild will be coming later today, if you missed the first post catch up here. Lots to talk about with that!
A lot of online discourse over Happy Gilmore 2. I got a chance to watch it this weekend and if you're not expecting a serious movie, it's a fun watch in my opinion. It did veer into the a celebrity cameo overload area a few times but Happy Gilmore 1 also had it's fair share of cameo's as well, so it's on brand. I felt tonally it was on par (hehe) with the first movie with maybe just a bit more over the top stuff than previous. I rate it a solid 7/10 and worth a watch if you want something light that you don't have to think about.
With my CFB 26 stuff kicking off soon™ I was thinking of doing livestreams on Twitch to go along with that, it's been awhile since I dipped my toes into the streaming world, and I am no means a CFB pro, but I think it would be fun to live stream some of that.
Red Lobster changed the game with their boil bags! I went out to dinner to try them out, got the Mariners bag which includes lobster tails, crab legs, shrimp, potatoes, corn and we threw in some smoked sausage at and upcharge. The buttered Old Bay flavor was FANTASTIC. Legitimately looking forward to going back to try a different flavor/spice. PROPS to Red Lobster.
