10 Things That Turn My Cogs 08/05/25

My birth week, with yesterday being my birthday. What's on my mind this week?

  1. August baseball has rolled around a lot of discourse surrounding the Cubs online. A team who recently lost their division lead, which they've head for the majority of the season, to the Milwaukee Brewers. Who's insane hot streak has continued (as of writing this they are up 4-0 over the Braves in the bottom of the 3rd.) The Brewers opened up a 3 game lead yesterday after a tough 3-2 Cubs loss to the Reds. The offense has cratered, with the top 4 guys all swinging cold bats. Still a good amount of baseball left but they need to turn things around sooner rather than later.

  2. Michael Soroka made his debut for the Cubs last night and unfortunately only made it through 2 innings before being pulled for injury. He looked solid, allowing just 1 hit and 1 run, and striking out 3. Unfortunately the injury sends him to the IL, whether or not we see him back remains to be seen. Bummer of a loss.

  3. The Chicago Bears Pre-Season schedule kicks off this week! The Bears will host the Dolphins on Sunday, August 10th at noon. No words on starters play time, mainly just excited that Bears football is fully back!

  4. This is my first full season of being a part of the Bears Twitter during training camp, and my lord has some of the discourse been just awful. Kneejerk reactions after every video, tidbit of news, etc. And I by no means am innocent of taking part, I do my share of hyping Kyle Monangai, but the full scale dooming coming from the fanbase over OFFENSIVE INSTALLS is insane! I really do think social media has been one of the biggest blessing/curse inventions of our time.

  5. SPEAKING of Kyle Monangai, lots of good stuff. (Yes I understand the irony of this but, bare with me) Ben Johnson is on record saying he sees Monangai as a big contributor in the fall, his work load with the second unit has only increased of the time frame of camp. Not to get a head of myself but this is all treading towards seeing Kyle be a good part of this offense. I love it.

  6. On to some non-sport related topics. King of the Hill is back! I got to watch a handful of episodes on my birthday, as so far, outside of getting use to the new time setting with it, it holds up well. The characters feel similar but different enough to know they've gotten older and grown. It takes on more adult subjects since it's being hosted by Hulu, as thus far each episode has proven to be enjoyable. I look forward to the rest of the release!

  7. Talked about it a little, my birthday was yesterday. The big 3-9. I took the day off, touched some grass and did some organizing of my desk. A super chill birthday, ended it with Portillos and Cheesecake. Perfect.

  8. The organization of my desk comes off the heels of me wishing to stream more. More on that soon. follow me here: https://www.twitch.tv/iamcogs

  9. Going out to Korean BBQ this weekend with friends, if you haven't tried KBBQ, do it.

  10. Finally, been really ramping up my reviews to try to finish up my backlog before the 2025 season. We will be seeing some articles drop here soon regarding so of those findings.
