I'm not going to lie, I totally forgot to do these the last 2 weeks, I hope you've all been well in that time! Time for a little catch up.
Just like that the Bears pre-season is over, with the Bears taking home a come form behind win against the Chiefs on Friday night. The comeback was engineered by Tyson Bagent and 3 consecutive touchdowns in the 4th Quarter. To move the Bears to 2-0-1 in the pre-season, their second consecutive undefeated pre-season (Not that that matters.) Tyson looked great despite a bit of a slower start, and it came at a great time as he inked a 2 year, 10 million dollar extension days before the game.
As someone who actively spoke out against Bagent being our number two QB, I will eat my crow and say I was wrong and admit that his performance the last two preseasons have more than earned him the backup job. Thanks for proving me wrong Tyson.
Time to talk about expectations. I posted a prediction of 9-8 and a 3rd place finish for this year earlier this year. I'm admittedly a bit pragmatic in my predictions, some may say it's due to years of jaded Bears fandom, but I feel like 9-8 is achievable with the schedule if we can split the season series with each NFC North opponent. I'm expecting some bumps, which I feel is to be normal for any first time head coach and offense, but by the end of the season on of my major expectations is a vastly more efficient offense with 4000+ yards passing by our QB1.
Incase you missed it: Pre-season Week 2 QB Scores are up on WCG. Week 3 is in the works and will be up soon.
After an extended period of .500 ball and struggling offense, the Cubs are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Kyle Tucker has been killing the ball the last 3-4 games, and with his revival our offense has seeming come with it. There's no better time for the team to get back on track then right now a solid push into the playoff's with the momentum to carry us.
The Cubs remaining schedule has them playing no one above .500 until September 19th, this is a great opportunity to build that W/L up and push for a post season spot.
Speaking of post season spot... the Cubs are just 5.5 games out of the NL Central lead, I'm not saying that it's going to happen, but the window is more open than it was a week ago.
Big call out to out rookie phenom pitcher Cade Horton, who since the All Star break has 0.49 ERA, .131 Opp BA, 0.78 WHIP, 25% K rate up 7.5% from pre ASB and .126 Opp BA on offspeed/breaking stuff. Horton has been as close to lights out as one could be and is making a serious push for rookie of the year considerations.
I've finally been working on a full season article regarding Caleb Williams' full season breakdown using my True Passer Rating. Stay tuned for that!
I went to Medieval Times on Friday, and if you haven't been. Go. Great food, great drink, great time. Can't recommend this place enough.
On a very light night I discovered The Babysitter over the weekend, what a fun little horror comedy that takes an unexpected turn about half way though akin to Quentin Tarantino's "From Dusk Till Dawn". I liked it so much I watched the sequel The Babysitter: Killer Queen a few hours later and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. The series doesn't take itself too seriously and provides enough comedic relief to make you forget that this movies are horror at heart.
