Tyson Bagent 2023 Week 8 Score against the Chargers.
Coming off a win against the Raiders in a start where he was not asked to do...much of anything. Tyson now plays a tough defense in the Chargers. PFF has his game score at 51.3 with 4(!!!) turnover worthy plays. I may be a little more lenient because I only found 3.
Due to early turnovers and offensive ineffectiveness the Bears went down quick and pretty big, forcing Bagent to throw more and the Chargers made his day pretty miserable.
He did, however, open up the game with a beautiful throw to Darnell Mooney which was for some reason blown dead for down by contact when he was never touched. And a dropped touchdown by Velus Jones could have made this a much better looking game (statistically.) Both throws were graded as "Elite". His final game score of -4.00 puts this in the "Bad" scoring. He did have 3 big time throws (throws grades "Great/Elite" but was bogged down by 5 total "Poor" throws and and 3 TOW plays.
On to some of the plays. For the full season of tracking, please click here.

Breakdown
Starting off BIG. Big throw to Mooney who also makes a stellar catch as well. This shows a large amount of trust from Bagent to Mooney here, good play design with Kmet taking the Safety to the middle of the field leaving Mooney with a 1-on-1. 47 air yards for the completion, and a bad whistle calls the play dead despite Mooney clearly never being touched while possessing the ball. Play grade: Elite
The play before the big Velus drop, 3-6 and Tyson hits Moore on a crossing route, good ball placement avoids the defender trying to make the play on the ball, and Moore does what he does best: pick up YAC. Big 3rd down pick up, good throw. Play grade: Good
My god am I glad Velus Jones is no longer on this team. This is actually a fantastic play, with the Bears taking advantage of the fact that Bagent has not thrown deep much, despite already completing 1 deep shot. #43 Michael Davis bites on the underneath route to DJ, and Velus literally has 10 yards between him and the nearest defender. 50 air yards, and Velus falls down and drops the ball. One of the easiest TD's you could draw up ruined. The Bears did go on to score this drive, but once again so glad Velus isn't a Bear. Play grade: Elite
We're going back and forth here. He's his second TOW play on the evening. 3-8 from the CHI 27, a deep in to Moore, a throw that Bagent was both late on, and threw with very little zip, which allows the CB to jump the route. The only reason this isn't heading the other way is because the intermediate defender got his hand on the ball. 100% turnover worthy, and a very lazy/dangerous throw over the middle. Play grade: Turnover Worthy, Poor
I had initially graded this as just a poor throw but after re-watching if it wasn't so poor this is an easy pick 6, Tyson stares down Tyler Scott here and it about one of the easiest jumps on a route I have seen, Tyson's own inaccuracy saves him from throwing a pick six. The football gods would make amends the very next play. Play grade: Turnover Worthy, Poor
4th-3 Mooney does take some contact yes, but Tyson's lack of zip once again leading his WR to getting hit, not only that it's a throw taking his WR off his feet. Mooney gets both hands on it, but it is a very tough play on what should have been an easy first down. Like I said the football gods make amends and see fit to give Tyson the pick here. Play grade: Bad
Final throw we'll be looking at. This is technically garbage time throws but still worth a look at in my opinion. 1-10 LAC30. Game is out of hand at this point 30-7. But I do want to highlight a good anticipation throw attacking the middle of the defense and finding the soft spot in the zone. 25+ air yards with anticipation on the money to Kmet. This would set up a Bagent QB sneak for the Bears second, and last, TD.
Play grade: Great
