Tyson Bagent 2023 Week 9 Score against the Saints. Tyson's 3rd official start as Justin Fields continues to try and come back from his thumb injury he suffered against the Vikings in week 6.

This was a very bipolar game from Tyson, in which he had both his best scored half (1.50) in the 1st half and worst scored half (-5.50) in the 2nd half. His second half was the 2nd worst half I've graded yet, second only to Caleb Williams' second half, week 2 against Houston.

Time to Throw was by far the highest yet on the season at 3.05s, .40s higher than previous as the Saints did a good job disguising coverages in the 2nd half and making Bagent second guess himself, causing him to be late on a lot of throws and reads. The -4.00 game score marks back to back weeks of a final score of -4.00 making this a "Bad" start. A tale of two halves. Saint would go on to win 24-17.

Breakdown

Situation: 1Q 1-10 NO18 11:28 Play Grade: Elite Play Notes: First TD pass comes on the opening drive, love this play design. Boot left, throw right on the TE leak. (Get ready to see this a good amount, it's a Ben Johnson special!!) At least 40-45 air yards giving Kmet a chance to get under the ball and make a play on it using his length. Bagent delivers an excellent ball despite a defender barring down on him, and Kmet makes an equally excellent catch. Bears take an early lead.

Situation: 1Q 2-10 CHI14 08:58 Play Grade: Good Play Notes: Keep an eye on Mooney and Moore here as they clear each other out of the play. The design of the play looks like it's to go to Mooney but Tyson senses backside pressure and probably realizes his receivers are about to eat shit and takes off. Good mobility and burst up the seam for 20 yards.

Situation: 1Q 2-15 CHI41 05:59 Play Grade: Turnover, Poor Play Notes: This was a lot of bad. Defensive play call beats the offensive leaving Tyson very little to work with. Cover 2 into basically 5 curl routes makes the defenses job extremely easy. He probably has DJ Moore as he begins to drift away from his defender, but Tyson has already started hesitating with the ball. The right play here is most likely make a play with your legs or check down to Foreman, but Tyson try's to fit the ball between two defenders essentially waiting for him to throw their way. Ball was thrown high and with poor judgment, especially when he lacks the arm strength to fit that throw in there.

Situation: 1Q 1-15 CHI25 00:44 Play Grade: Average Play Notes: Just wanted to highlight Darnell Mooney on this play. A little boot naked to the WR who was coming underneath the line. Darnell makes 3 defenders over pursue the sideline, cuts back and grabs a huge gain of 38 off it. Watching Mooney operate this last few weeks has really made me appreciate and miss him. I think he would have been a great piece in Ben Johnson's offense.

Situation: 2Q 1-G NO9 12:57 Play Grade: Great Play Notes: A lot to like on this play. A little RPO action as Tyson holds it in Foremen's belly for a good amount of time, causing the defense to bite down on the run, Cole is blocking down like it's a run then sheds his block and Tyson delivers a good ball with enough touch to get it over the defender while another defender is baring down on him.

Situation: 4Q 2-10 CHI25 11:03 Play Grade: Turnover, Bad Play Notes: We move on the 4th Quarter from hell. Where Tyson turns the ball over more (3) than he completes passes (2). This is the 1st of those 3. This is an easy completion if he can get the ball out ahead of Mooney but Tyson throws a bit behind him, and the CB makes a great closing play on the throw. Another example of lack a zip possibility being the difference between and incompletion and a turnover. Tyson is also a tad late on this throw, hesitating just enough to give the defense enough time to close on the receiver.

Situation: 4Q 3-9 CHI29 5:14 Play Grade: Turnover, Poor Play Notes: 2nd interception of the 2nd half. Paulson Adebo had himself a damn day. 7 tackles, 3 PD's, 2 INT's, 1 FR. And the same issues that showed up in his first interception is here too. Late on the throw, behind his receiver and overall lack of zip allows the defender to make a pretty easy play. Why you're even targeting Adebo at this point is crazy. Again we see a slight hesitation in his throw, as Tyson double hops before throwing. Tenths of a seconds lost once again play a big part in a turnover.

Situation: 4Q 2-9 CHI29 5:22 Play Grade: Throw Away Play Notes: Bonus weekly Lucas Patrick "What the fuck was that snap?" Footage. Patrick literally rolls the ball to Bagent here. Props to Bagent for being able to recover from them, and despite it being a neutral play, that's thanks in part to Bagent making it so.
