It was a better week for Bo Nix under center for the Broncos, however that did not exactly translate to a win, as the Colts upset the Broncos 29-28 with a walk off field goal, after they were given a second kick on a personal foul leverage call. So how did Nix improve this week?

Let's take a look.

Breakdown

  • Early on Nix hit two Elite throws, the first going to Marvin Mims for for 23 yard touchdown. A perfectly placed deep ball over the trailing defender, a slight adjustment needed by Mims but nothing to the point that required extra-ordinary effort to haul the throw in. Mims and Nix had good chemistry in 2024, very curious to see if this continues in 2025.

  • His second deep throw was a beauty. While on the move he lofted a ball 45+ air yards to Troy Franklin who had to reach for it a bit, but hauls it in for the huge gain. Now, it wasn't dropped in his breadbasket, BUT, given the distance and difficulty of the throw while on the run the play keeps the "Elite" status.

  • As mentioned on the afternoon Nix was basically accurate but in the 1st half all 4 of his incompletions came on poor throws, giving his WR no chance to haul in the throw. If he can continue to reel in those poor throws his score will only continue to improve.

  • PFF gave Nix two TOW throws on the afternoon, however I felt this was unfair as one of those throws was aided by a defensive penalty. The throw in question was to Lucas Krull at the goal line, Xavien Howard grabs Krull's jersey for leverage to jump the route. Without the holding he doesn't get that jump. So his only TOW throw on the afternoon came on the late overthrow to Courtland Sutton

  • Side note, the Broncos OL is VERY GOOD. They are allowing just a 21.43% pressure rate through the first 2 games, and allowed just 5 pressures on Bo Nix this week.

  • This was a decent bounce back game for Nix, despite the scoreboard, he was better with ball, a side effect of a lower aDOT, and was great deep, hitting 2 of his 3 deep shots. His final score of -0.80/-0.20/-1.00 comes in as a slightly lower end "Average" game (reminder a score between 2.00 and -2.00) grades as average. A tough road game against the Chargers next week, lets see if he continues to trend upwards.
