The theme for Nix thus far in 2025 has been consistency, or lack thereof. Since an ugly Week 1 performance that saw him chart a -5.00 game score, Nix has played better, but has struggled to play consistent. It seems as if every charted bad play would have it's equal charted good play, leading to game scores that have now been consistently in the "Average" range 3 weeks running. It was clear, however, that this week against the Bengals was his best start of 2025. What does that mean?

Let's take a look!

Breakdown

  • I said this last week, and one of the things that sticks out most to me for Nix is his ability to navigate the pocket, step into it when needed, and scramble when he has to. He is already benefitting from the best OL pass blocking unit in the game, his added mobility plays a big part in him only being sacked 3 times on the year. It even lead to the opening touchdown from the Broncos.

  • The OL had another good game, a bounce back from the Chargers game, allowing a 22.72% pressure rate on Monday.

  • He had his best game big play-wise, scoring 2 "Great" plays and 2 "Elite" plays.

  • The Elite plays both came in the intermediate or longer. The first being the 20 yard touchdown strike to Sutton. A throw that showed good placement and accuracy in getting the ball over the defender for a score.

  • The other Elite play also came targeting Franklin, a deep throw where Nix avoided backside pressure, stepping up into the pocket and throwing down the middle, splitting the safeties and hitting Franklin on the numbers, but he drops it. Drops we a pretty big issue, as Nix was a victim of 3 this week.

  • His first "Great" play was a nice throw to Franklin on an In route that showcases anticipation and good ball placement in the intermediate, middle of the field.

  • On his second "Great" play, he hit Marvin Mims deep, this got knocked down a peg in grading due to the throw slowing Mims down, costing a potential touchdown play.

  • His one interception came on a 4th down play in the redzone, a throw he tried to force into the back of the endzone. Down near the goal line those throwing windows shrink and I believe this just happens to be a situation where Nix trusted his arm too much, leading to an underneath defender jumping his throw creating the turnover.

  • With a final score 0.85/0.45/1.30 this places him solidly in the upper "Average" range for a game score. The Broncos will hope they continue to see improvement with Nix and the Broncos travel to Philadelphia to take on the defending Superbowl champions. If Nix can figure out his Mid/Deep range accuracy issues (35.0% / 35.7%) it will go a long way towards a Broncos upset.
