Jared Goff faced the Ravens in Week 3, and delivered a strong performance: he completed 20 of 28 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown in Detroit’s 38–30 road win. The primetime matchup also saw the Lions rack up 224 rushing yards to complement Goff’s aerial output. Overall, Goff’s showing combined efficiency passing with solid support from the run game against Baltimore.

Let's take a look at the breakdown.

Breakdown

  • Goff started the game off immediately in sync, hitting Jameson Williams for back-to-back mid level completions, the first for 24, followed by another for 19. He also hit ARSB on a quick Out on a 4th down in the redzone to extend the drive, which would ultimately lead to 7.

  • Overall Goff was safe, effective, efficient, and accurate. Completing over 70% of his passes once again this season, and hitting 66.7% on on-target throws, a mark that leads the QB's a grade for week 3. He didn't put the ball in danger (besides the very debatable "lateral" that was in my opinion wrongly deemed a backwards pass.) 13 of his 15 aimed throws in the first half were on target.

  • His two elite throws both came to Amon-Ra St. Brown. The first a perfect fade over a defender near the back corner of the endzone. Including depth into the endzone this would be a Deep level throw, and Goff drops it in St. Brown's breadbasket. His second elite throw would be a similar throw, showcasing fantastic anticipation, accuracy and placement. A 4th down throw for 20 that essentially iced the game, as it would lead to a touchdown extending the Lions lead to 14 with under 2 minutes to play.

  • His 2 poor throws on the night came on badly underthrown balls to open receivers. For the majority of the night, however, Goff was on point and did not put the ball in any danger. Exactly what you need from your QB when your ground game is firing on all cylinders.

  • For the most part, however, Goff was a piece supplementing a ground attack that saw 224 total yards gained and 4 touchdowns split between David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. Which is by no means a knock on Goff, because when his number was called Monday night he more often than not answered.

  • With a score of 1.15/0.35/1.50 Jared Goff's 3rd start this year earned him a high "Average" game score. This is one of those games where you're perfectly happy with the score seeing how well the ground game was functioning, He did, admittedly, tank his score just a bit with a 3 drive stretch where he was graded with 2 poor, 1 bad, and 1 below average play with only an average play to try and balance that out. That stretch alone cost his 2.15 game score.
