After winning the rookie of the year award and piloting the Washington Commanders to the NFC Championship game, hopes are high in Washington. The Commanders brought in Laremy Tunsil in a trade from the Texans, Deebo Samuel from the 49ers in a trade, and drafted Jacory Croskey-Merritt to play their 2nd back. (who scored his first career touchdown this week against the Giants) Let's take a look at the breakdown.

Breakdown

  • On the first drive of the game Jayden Daniels nearly turned the ball over on a throw intended to Deebo Samuel, a short out route that he was staring down, the CB got a good jump on the throw and got two hands on the ball, but fortunately for the Commanders, he did not come up with the pick. This would be Jayden's only dangerous throw on the afternoon, he had 2 more poor throws on the afternoon a badly thrown deep ball to and open Terry and his endzone throw away at the end of the half that cost the Commanders a chance at points.

  • But Jayden makes up for the near pick quickly, hitting Chris Moore on a 34 dot on the rollout. This showcased elite arm talent and deep accuracy especially while on the move. This would propel the Commanders to their first touchdown.

  • The game plan was pretty simple for the Commanders, quick reads and getting the ball out quickly to limit the Giants front 4, while Jayden did take 2 at fault sacks, the Giants pressure rate overall was just 21.95%.

  • 2 drops in the first half would have made the stat line a bit better for Jayden, be we still grade drops positively here.

  • 11 carries for 68 yards showcasing Jayden's continued excellence at having the ball in his hands, punctuated with a great run in the 4th quarter for 19 converting a 3rd down and keeping the Giants offense off the field.

  • Very little was needed from Jayden in the second half, Washington mostly stuck to quick throws and the ground game, as the Giants were completely lost on offense. A good game plan from Quinn and company from start to finish, and overall I felt the Washington OL looked good, and Jayden made them look better with his natural shiftiness.

  • Jayden was efficient and took what was given to him from a tough Giants pass rush. While he did take 2 QB at fault sacks, he took care of the ball and completed 50% of his deep shots. He scored a 1.35/.70/2.05 charting as an lower end "Good"game grade. A good start to the season for the reigning rookie of the year.
