Lions @ Bears: Caleb Williams 2024 Week 16 Grade

Caleb Williams Week 16 Grade against the Lions.

-Despite a 17 point loss I graded the game as a whole, Detroit did not relax their defense, bringing multiple blitz and simulated blitz throughout the final drive. -First thing I want to touch on is the TD to Keenan, it was a work of art. Early in the game they hit Keenan on a quick out. On this play, Keenan pivots like he is running the quick out as Caleb gives a pump fake to sell it, DB bites on it and Keenan turns up field, Caleb delivers a perfect ball in stride allowing Keenan to go the distance. A perfectly drawn up and executed play preying on the defense to expect a quick gain to the sideline in the 2 minute drill. -4 big time throws on the day. The touchdown and 22 yard touch pass over a defender to Keenan, the 4th down conversion to Rome and 25 yards to DJ to set up the Keenan TD.

-2 of those throws showcased something a bit lacking this season: touch with accuracy! We know Caleb has a fantastic arm but his touch throws have been few and far between. But it was a coming out week for those throws, as he delivered 2 perfect touch throws for big plays.

-We need to see more 50/50 balls to Rome! There's a reason he's a top 5 WR in contested catch rate, he's GOOD at it! And he showed that this week, hopefully we see Caleb taking advantage of more deep 1 on 1's with Rome, an accurate ball on a 1 on 1 always give the WR the advantage. -This may have been one of his most accurate days throwing the ball, like most QB's there were some misses but as far as accuracy on his completions there were very little "WR had to make an extra effort to haul this in" throws. Footwork got chopped up a bit a few times but overall a big improvement over the last 2 weeks.

-6.75 total score rates as a "Great" start, his best since week 12 against Minnesota, he has had 6 "Great" or higher starts thus far on the season. For the full season of tracking, please click here.
