Tyson Bagent 2023 Week 10 Score against the Panthers.
Scores: (1Q/2Q/Game) -5.75/-1.25/-7.00
I will be doing a final analysis of Tyson Bagent in the next few days to summarize what we've learned from the film, so stay tuned.
This was Tyson's last start of his 4.5 games of action in 2023. And he struggled to say the least. The stat line does not look terrible but we all know there's more in the tape than meets the eye. I only plan on highlighting a couple plays because, to be quiet honest, there was very little noteworthy things to highlight in this start.
Tyson completed just 4 passes that I would give a positive graded score, while netting 12 negative grades including a TOW throw.
2.85 TTT was fine but supplemented by 13 throws to a designated receiver (WR screen, RB screen, etc.) No sacks and the line kept Tyson fairly clean (25% pressure rate.) But Tyson struggled with reading the Panthers defense especially if the first read was not blatantly wide open. An issue we've seen throughout his time started. He was a bit more careful with the ball as opposed to last week, but opened the game with a TOW throw.
Tyson did string together 2 decent drives to end the second half where we saw his most sustained level of Above Average play, both drives ending in Field Goals.
He also had a dropped touchdown by Darnell Mooney in the early 2nd half that would have made his stat line (and final score) look better. Besides that the 2nd half was basically unremarkable due to only 12 plays (that weren't Tyson taking a knee at the end of the game.)
Let's get into a couple plays. For the full season of tracking, please click here.

Breakdown
Situation: 1Q 3-8 CHI43 13:36 Play Grade: Turnover Worthy, Poor Play Notes: This is a extremely poor throw. Not only does Bagent get caught starring down Kmet, the key defender Deion Jones breaks on the ball before Tyson even begins his wind up. Donte Jackson also makes a break on the ball, and the only thing that stops this from being a turnover is Deion Jones getting a hand on it causing a deflection. This is a perfect example of the Panthers does a great job of taking away the first read from Tyson, he struggled with this all day.
Situation: 2Q 1-10 CAR42 6:12 Play Grade: Poor Play Notes: This is an example of a throw you just have to make at the NFL level. This is a great play design that leaves Roshon Johnson with SO MUCH green in front of him. But Tyson makes a poor throw despite no immediate pressure. This is very likely a play that gets the Bears to the red zone, but a poor pass means a missed opportunity.
Situation: 2Q 4-4 CAR36 5:18 Play Grade: Above Average Play Notes: I promise you guys I'm not trying to be bias in this start but this is legitimately his best throw on the outing. Things that get him a bonus here: 4th down conversion, and depth of target. His throw was still off line and late, making it a much more difficult play than it should have been. (With the coverage Tyson should be releasing that ball when Scott begins to break around the 26/27) but he needed to see his man open allowing the defense to break on the ball. He's simply not reading defense and/or not trusting what he's reading until he sees it open.
Situation: 3Q 1-4 CAR4 6:41 Play Grade: Average w/ WR Drop Play Notes: The aforementioned dropped TD. This is an easy throw and catch and the camera doesn't do us any favors but if you watch the broadcast this ball hits Mooney between the numbers. He just doesn't secure it. Good job on Tyson trusting the timing and window of the throw, Mooney has to make that catch.
Situation: 4Q 1-10 CAR46 8:41 Play Grade: Bad Play Notes: Last play, and this one really just showcases Tyson's struggles on the day. He's not trusting what he is seeing and only throwing it if he's absolutely sure someone is open. On this play both Kmet and Moore are 100% NFL open if thrown with anticipation but Tyson holds on to the ball out of lack of trust in either his receivers or himself, causing him to panic and throw at Kmet way late. If this ball is on target it's once again probably going the other way since by the time Tyson decides to throw the LB is running the route for Kmet.
